WINES OF CRETE AT TXIKITEO.

This week we serve up wines from Lyrarakis Winery, a family-owned winery focused on heritage varieties. Like Txikiteo, Lyrarakis (try saying those two words together five times fast) champions the local, the offbeat, the rare individual focused on a single brilliant gesture. In the case of the Lyrarakis, that gesture has been saving ancient, native white varieties from extinction.

The Plytó grape variety was saved from extinction by the Lyrarakis family, when it was planted in the "Psarades" family vineyard at 480m altitude in central Crete in the early '90s.

Some of these wines will be featured at a Greek-family-style dinner on Tuesday (including the only case of rose from this winery coming into Idaho)! The distributor will be on hand to discuss the wines of this distinct region of the world. This is a wine-lover's opportunity to taste wines made from varieties that were close to disappearing, as well as Lyrarakis' creative blending of well-known local and foreign varieties.

Come celebrate the preserving of old traditions, and maybe create some new ones. Opa!
